Serve Others

“Verily I say unto you in as much as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me” – Matthew 25:40

Deerfield United Methodist Church has a mission statment: “Connecting to God, serving others”. The Risk Taking Missions Group focuses on sharing God’s love by serving others. This group identifies areas of need in the community and offers whatever assistance they can. With donations of food, money, time and kindness, they are trying to bring comfort to those who need it the most.

The Church has found many ways to reach out to the community. On the second Sunday of every month, they sponsor a free dinner for anyone in the community who wants to attend. They have a great relationship with the Kings Food Pantry and organize monthly food drives to help stock the Pantry’s shelves. Church members prepare and serve meals at Bernie’s Place, a homeless shelter in Lebanon. The Berrywood Senior Apartments is a favorite place for members of the congregation to visit. They can be found there several times a month holding Wii Bowling Tournaments, singing Karaoke or just celebrating the latest holiday. They also sponsor a dessert auction every year to raise money for local children in need.

The economy may be challenging, but DUMC is using their greatest strength, their parishioners, to tend to those in the community that need it the most.
