Our History

The first meeting of Deerfield United Methodist Church was a potluck dinner held at the parsonage on September 13, 1981.  The first worship service was held on November 29, 1981 at the parsonage.  Other services took place at the Landen Farm house which was torn down in the mid 1980’s.

Ground breaking for our current building was held on June 4, 1986.  The first service was held on Christmas Eve of that same year.  The building was enclosed, but unfinished on the inside.  Everyone brought their own “seat and heat!”  The building was completed and the first official service was held on February 15, 1987.  Ground breaking for the Education wing was held on May 12, 1996.  Once completed, it was dedicated on February 16, 1997.

Our annual Spaghetti Dinner and Dessert Auction began in 1988.  Proceeds of almost $40,000 have been raised in support of our youth mission trip, the Dream Factory and families with children with medical conditions.  This event is sponsored by the United Methodist Men’s group and the Missions Team.

A more recent tradition is our free Community Dinner on the second Sunday of the month from 6:00-7:30 p.m.  Come join us and meet your neighbors for great food, fun and fellowship!

In May 2011, we welcomed St. Mary Magdalene Episcopal Church to our building.  To accommodate their service, our service was changed to 11:00 a.m.
